GM Diesel Valve Guide Tool

GM Diesel Valve Guide Tool

DieselEngine.jpg The diesel/electric locomotives of the railways in Australia are powered by GM multi-cylinder diesel engines. These engines are serviced at regular intervals to maintain their efficient operation.
Each cylinder head has four exhaust valves. A sixteen cylinder engine has sixty-four valve guides. These valve guides do need replacement when they are worn or when a change is called for in the maintenance schedule.
It takes about six tons to remove a valve guide and a similar amount to insert one. This can be achieved with the cylinder head firmly fixed to a bench and the application of many blows with a small sledgehammer.
Or it can be done quietly, efficiently and safely with an ENERPAC high force hydraulic cylinder and tooling specifically designed for the task.
