Automotive power diodes are encapsulated in resin. This resin fulfills three functions. It is an electrical insulator. It shields the junction from moisture and other contaminants. It provides structural strength and dimensional stability to the assembly as a whole. As with all modern manufacturing processes, the performance of the resin as a raw material, as a manufacturing component and as a finished product, is constantly under investigation. This apparatus is used to mix the ingredients of resins under vacuum in varying ratios in preparation for study.
