A Hand Operated Initiating Explosives Compacting Press.For experimental work on solid propellant rockets, this press is used to pack initiating explosive into the primer caps of rocket motors. The toggle action press advances a fixed distance. The bolster, which supports the primer cap during compacting, is balanced against a calibrated force. This ensures that as the filling progresses the explosive is always compacted by an equal force.The steel structure is explosion proof, The viewing window is clear polycabonate reinforced with mylar film. The doors are interlocked with the mechanism so that the press cannot advance unless the doors are closed. Bronze is used wherever there is the risk of spark generation.
